Faith Like A Child
Sorry that I am a few days late with this post but I just got back from a week at the beach with my family. The very first day, I was reminded again why Jesus tells us that we need to receive the kingdom of God like a child. (Luke 18:17) Each year we spend at least a week or so at the same house owned by a relative. My oldest daughter is nearly 5 and she has been to that house several times. The house is very modest - 2 small bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, living room, family room, etc. But upon our arrival this year, she runs in the house and explores every room, and from the bathroom I hear her yell, “Dad, this beach house is incredible!” I was busy turning on the central air and unpacking the car, and I had never stopped to give the house a second thought. To me it was familiar, common place, something I was used to. For whatever reason, I realized in that moment that I may view God in much the same way. He may be someone that I can often take for granted. Just like that house, maybe He is someone that I assume will be there whenever I decide to show up. My daughter reminded me that even though the house is familiar, that I need to stop and look around and be reminded that it is also quite incredible. Maybe if we start to view God in much the same way, we will begin to understand what it means to come to Him with faith like a child.
