Still and Silent

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I have nothing to say, but sometimes that is a good thing. Sometimes we need to just be still and silent. I think in our modern society we get so use to things being “crazy” all the time that we forget that sometimes things do slow down, and it’s okay to just be. I have often been drawn to God in my life during those crazy times, which is perhaps why they happen, but now I need to learn how to be drawn to God in the quite moments too. This week I’ve been reminded

Addicting Sin

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Did you ever have one of those sins that you seem to be addicted to? That sin that no matter how many times you confess it, or how many times you swear it will never happen again I always does. I know that in the eyes of God a sin is a sin and all sins are equal in that they require a blood sacrifice, but this type of sin is especially frustrating because it makes me feel and realize how weak I really am. I often look at people who are addicted to

Pushing Jesus (part 2)

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

So how does one push Jesus? He’s not some fancy new gadget we need to sell. If we push Jesus like He’s some new “all in one,” “for a limited time only,” “only three easy payments of 19.95” product, what kind of image of Christ do we present? In today’s society we look for the quick fix. We want the easy pill we swallow that gets us what we want fast. Jesus is not a quick fix. He’s not someone to go to only when there is a problem that needs solved. He’s

Pushing Jesus

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

If asked who my favorite band is my answer would probably always have been U2. “The Joshua Tree” was probably one of the first CD’s I ever purchased, and perhaps the only album that I like every single song on it. I’m typically not a fan of religious inspirational type books, but because of my fondness for the band I read “Walk On the Spiritual Journey of U2” and it has given me a new appreciation for the band and their take on what it means to live a “Christian Life.” Today I wanted to

Things wanted and needed…

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The other night I caught the tail end of an interview with non other than “the material girl” herself- Madonna. It seems that age and motherhood has changed the once self-proclaimed superficial pop star. She is doing interviews to promote her new documentary “I Am Because We Are” a film which looks at the plight of children orphaned by Aids in one of the world’s poorest countries, Malawi Africa. What caught my attention was something she said about her reasons for going, and what she ended up realizing about her initial motivation. She said that

Walk the Line

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

The question that I have been asking myself lately is what type of Christian am I? And what type of Christian do I want to be?

1. A believer who is not involved in the world at all, and sees it as a bad place, not a place where Christians should be.

2. An uninformed believer who runs headlong into the world with clichéd religious slogans that make sense in church but not outside of it.

3. A believer who is involved in

As I Am

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Sometimes I find myself approaching my relationship to God in the same way some people approach a diet. First, you start off great- days of nothing but bran cereal for breakfast, salads for lunch, and chicken for dinner, but then temptation becomes too great and you polish off a whole box of cookies! And instead of picking up where you left off, you immediately think that you’ve ruined everything so you might as well eat that pint of ice cream too!

I’m learning to not let myself fall into

Stuck In The Moment

Monday, April 7th, 2008

“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” _Chuck Swindoll

In the recent present I have found myself dealing with unexpected challenges. Truthfully it has been one of the most trying times in my life. It has been especially frustrating because all of the circumstances surrounding the situations I’ve had to deal with seem so far out of my control. I think I would feel better about it all if I had been trying to “get away with something” and it blew

Identity First

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

In order to live as “Inside Out People” I think we must first answer the questions that surround our identity. The question of identity is a big one – Who am I? Why am I here? What is my place in this world? For Christians the question becomes even more involved – Who am I in Christ? What purpose does God have for me? How does my existence further Gods plans? For me sometimes these questions seem mutually exclusive, but they’re not. I’ve wrestled with these questions for what
